【摘要】:Fromtheseteststherelativeexpansivepotentialofsoil-limemixturescontainingvaryingamountsoflimecanbeevaluated.Fromsuchanevaluation,theamountoflimerequiredtoreduceexpansiontoacceptablelevelscanbedetermined.Thedatacanthenbeusedforthedesignandspecificationrequirementsforsubgradesandstructuralfillswhereexpansivesoilsareencounteredanditisdesiredtogiveacertaindegreeofexpansion-shrinkagecontroltostructurefoundationsandroadsubgrades.Thetestswillalsoshowifthespecificsoilsareamenabletolimestabilization.Note28212;Thequalityoftheresultproducedbythisstandardisdependentonthecompetenceofthepersonnelperformingit,andthesuitabilityoftheequipmentandfacilitiesused.AgenciesthatmeetthecriteriaofPracticeD3740aregenerallyconsideredcapableofcompetentandobjectivetesting/sampling/inspection/andthelike.UsersofthisstandardarecautionedthatcompliancewithPracticeD3740doesnotinitselfassurereliableresults.Reliableresultsdependonmanyfactors;PracticeD3740providesameansofevaluatingsomeofthosefactors.1.1Thesetestmethodsprovideproceduresforconductingexpansion,shrinkage,andupliftpressuretestsoncompactedsoil-limemixturesandcanbeusedtodeterminethelimecontentrequiredtoachievedesiredcontrolofvolumechangescausedbyincreasesordecreasesofmoisture.1.2Thetestscanbeusedtodetermine(a)themagnitudeofvolumechangesundervaryingloadconditions,(b)therateofvolumechange,and(c)themagnitudeofpressurechangeasmoisturechangesofthesoil-limemixturetakeplace.Thepermeabilityofsoil-limemixturecanalso,ifdesired,bedeterminedatthevariousloadconditions.Note18212;Changesinfieldconditionscanhavemajoreffectsontheexpansionandshrinkagecharacteristicsofexpansivesoils.Therefore,tothegreatestextentpossible,initialandanticipatedfuturefieldconditionsshouldbeduplicated,particularlywithrespecttomoistureanddensity.1.3AllobservedandcalculatedvaluesshallconformtotheguidelinesforsignificantdigitsandroundingestablishedinPracticeD60261.3.1Themethodusedtospecifyhowdataarecollected,calculated,orrecordedinthisstandardisnotdirectlyrelatedtotheaccuracytowhichthedatacanbeappliedindesignorotheruses,orboth.Howoneappliestheresultsobtainedusingthisstandardisbeyonditsscope.1.4ThevaluesstatedinSIunitsaretoberegardedasthestandard.Thevaluesgiveninparenthesesareforinformationonly.1.5Thisstandarddoesnotpurporttoaddressallofthesafetyconcerns,ifany,associatedwithitsuse.Itistheresponsibilityoftheuserofthisstandardtoestablishappropriatesafetyandhealthpracticesanddeterminetheapplicabilityofregulatorylimitationspriortouse.
